Title: Be aware of scam emails
Scam emails are on the increase, please be careful
Our support staff have noticed an increase in scam emails catching clients who "trust" emails. Email is an unsecured medium, that means you can't trust that an email has come from the name in the From field.
Be very careful when getting an email asking for usernames, passwords, banking information or even personal details. Our staff have seen various emails circulate claiming to be the ISP Customer Care Team or Helpdesk. After looking at the details from the message header it's easy to spot the fake email to an expert eye.
I understand you may not have an eye for detail and some of the email scams can be pretty convincing so please think twice before responding to emails requesting information you would not want in the public domain.
While there are many things we do to help prevent forged emails, like using SPF records on our mail server emails are not secured communications and private details (passwords, account numbers etc.. etc..) would not be requested by your ISP or other organisations via email.
If you suspect an email may be a scam please send it to abuse@winshop.com.au and we may be able to assist in blocking future emails of that type.
