| Question: My telephone line and ADSL direct is Optus can I churn keeping the same telephone line or will I need to change to Telstra? | |
| Answer: Our equipment is located in the Telstra Exchanges. Therefore you would have to have a line connected to the Telstra network either directly or via a reseller to connect to our equipment. Unfortunately Optus Direct removes your line from Telstra Wholesale's grasp. The only company you can buy Internet from on an Optus Direct line, is Optus. Telstra sometimes reward you with a credit for bringing your phone line back. Be sure to ask them if you transfer your line back to Telstra. |

| Question: How can I limit/block spam and virii? Where do blocked message go? | |
| Answer: After trying many systems, we found the Maia Mailguard software the best way to provide what our customers wanted. A anti spam and virus system that works very well without interaction. It will look at every message that comes in and decide if it's a virus, spam or non-spam (ham). It will quarantine the message in our mail filter for up to 30 days. You can log into the mail filter and release/re-deliver the email should you need it and inform the filter it made a mistake. By training our filter it can get better at detecting email more accurately in the future. There are further instructions on the mail filter website. Remember to log in using your full email address and password. The system only works for email accounts at domains Winshop controls. This service is provided at no extra charge for domains that are compatible and under our control. Should you wish to turn the filtering off, you can do so by logging in. It is on a moderate level by default which suits most clients. |

|
| Question: Can I churn/transfer to/from Winshop ADSL/ADSL2+? | |
| Answer: Yes (with a few catches), Winshop supports the fast churn/transfer process. The ISP you are leaving has to support the process. Be aware that by churning away from your old provider you should notify them as per their terms and conditions that you are leaving and settle your account. To complicate matters further some ISPs allow ADSL churns but not ADSL2+ churns. Many ISPs are listed under different company/trading names and some companies buy wholesale from other listed companies. Please call our staff i you are considering churning and we will provide you with the most up to date details we have available. Telstra Wholesale maintain a list of companies here: http://www.telstrawholesale.com/products/docs/access_broadband_dsltransfer.xls?from=web

|
| Question: Why does my ADSL/ADSL2+ connection drop out all the time, especially when someone calls me? | |
| Answer: ADSL/ADSL2+ requires filters/splitters on all other devices that connect to the phone line. If a filter is missing or faulty it will cause many problems with drop outs. If you have a monitored alarm system it will require a central filter, this is usually installed by your alarm company as Internet/Telecommunication firms should not touch your alarm equipment. |

|
| Question: Is there an easy way to check my usage in realtime? | |
| Answer: Go to the My account section on our homepage and logging in with your username and password and then clicking "Usage Quota" is the best way to see your usage for the current billing period. It will let you see quickly if your connection has been shaped (slowed down) or not. Example:
New: If you would like to see a graph of your usage click "Usage Graph" you should then be presented with a graph similar to the one below. It shows your usage plotted in 15 minute intervals over the period of time selected. It will also show your total usage for the period displayed on the graph. There is a link "Back" and "Forward" that allow you to slide the X axis. It also has a link to the Detail report, that show the same information in a text format. If you run your mouse over any plot point a tooltip window appears with more information about that point in time. By clicking that point, it will zoom into the 1 day view on the point you clicked. This tool is designed to assist customers who have high usage in trying to track down the time the usage occurs. Handy for diagnosing network problems such as trojans/virii eating up bandwidth. It unfortunately can not tell you what information was uploaded/download. This information can be rounded/averaged so may not match our billing data down to the last decimal place, but is generally accurate to 1-2MB. This is due to the data source being 15 minute interrum account packets rather than end of session packets which we use for billing purposes.
If you use Firefox, there is a plugin that displays usage quickly on the title bar below: The kind people from http://netusage.iau5.com/ have written a firefox add on which allows you to see your remaining quota details on your browser tool bar. This is a fantastic free utility and works with all our plans that start with "JET" ADSL and ADSL2+ customers. Other customers please lookup usage graph via the Winshop My Account web page as listed above. |

|
| Question: What speed could I expect from an ADSL2+ connection? | |
| Answer: The speed of ADSL2+ varies depending on distance from the exchange and the quality of the copper line between you and the exchange. Sometimes speed can be improved by getting a central splitter installed at you premesis which can bypass old internal cabling. Many clients have sockets with bad cabling inducing noise on their line, by installing a central splitter at the point the line enters your premesis and running a direct fresh piece of copper you can improve your connection in some cases. If your line is good and there are no other factors affecting your connection you should be able to experience speeds close to this graph. Remember these are ideal speeds, not everyone has a good enough line to achieve this speeds.
